Details regarding Pendley Farms 'You Pick':
Common Questions: Answers:
 - When is blueberry season?
  • We should have ripe blueberries ready to pick around mid-June depending on the weather... Blueberry season is generally from mid-June through July but depending on the Spring and Summer weather, it could be sooner or later. We have picked in May and we have picked in August, so it really does vary. We have not had any ripe berries yet this year, but they are getting close....
  •  - Do we need to provide our own bucket?
  • We have buckets and gallon jugs that you can use while picking.
  •  - What are your hours and days open?
  • We send out emails weekly for the days and times of the next week 'You Pick'. Usually we send out on Sunday for the next week. It depends on the forecasted weather but generally we try to have our "You Picks" on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (arrive no later than 7:00 p.m.). Most of the field is in shade so that helps a lot at this time of day. Some weeks (when we really have a lot that are ripe), we will add other days of the week for the same timeframe.
  •  - What is the cost?
  • The cost is $2.50 a lb for 'You Pick'.
  •  - Do you use any chemicals/pesticides on your blueberries?
  • We occasionally use some pesticides (for bugs) on the blueberries. We will tell you if and when they were last sprayed when you come.
  • Other information:
  • Be sure you wear closed in shoes (no sandals or flip-flops please). There are bugs, this is an outside activity. Use bug spray. There is a short walk to the field from where you park, but it is worth it.
  • If we have sent out an email announcing a day and time for 'You Pick' and it starts to rain where you are on that afternoon, check your email to see if it has been canceled for that day. We do our best to send out an email of cancelation before 5:00 p.m. Plenty of times, it is raining in Huntsville but not on our side of the river, so check your email to see before you come out. If no email is sent canceling, then we are open, but if you get here and it is raining or begins to rain, we will have to close. One does not pick in the rain because the blueberries do not store well if they are wet.
  • Blueberries are good for you!
